That means 9 out of 10 buyers go elsewhere next time. With £1,500 profit per sale on average, that's a serious chunk of revenue slipping through your fingers.
That means they’re selling more without spending more — and in some cases, they’ve even ditched Auto Trader altogether.
That’s the difference when you stop relying on ads.

Our client had a problem in that they were spending a lot of money on generating leads that then turn into finance approvals. They were getting in the region of 900 approvals a month and their sales team were getting absolutely swamped and unable to keep on top of the flow of approvals. On top of that when they did get to call the approvals people wouldn't answer their phones...
We have worked with this dealer for a while and looked at putting a bespoke system in that
Our client a small used car dealer that sells around 10 cars a month, was aware that they were probably missing out on enquiries directly through their website.

We don't believe in locking customers into restrictive contracts.
We want dealers using our products because they want to not because a contract tells them they have to.
You can use the service on a 30 day rolling month to month basis and you are free to cancel at any time.
AutoEngage is very simple to use, it is as simple as logging in, on your computer, tablet or phone and replying to the enquiries you've had come in.
There is nothing worse than paying too much for something and not getting any value in return. We have priced Inbox so that it doesn't matter if you sell 5 cars a month from home or 500 from a site.

Sytner Group, one of the most profitable dealer groups in the UK, has announced a significant restructuring of its CarShop used car supermarket brand following a strategic review. CarShop staff were informed that the business, ranked second in profitability in the Car Dealer Top 100, will be "shifting its focus." The restructuring includes the potential rebranding of many CarShop locations into Sytner Select Approved Used Cars superstores and the possible closure of at least one site. Additionally, Sytner is in advanced negotiations to sell a portion of its CarShop stores to another party.
CarShop currently operates across several locations, including Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, Manchester, Northampton, Norwich, Nottingham, Sheffield, Swindon, Warrington, and Wolverhampton. The Wakefield site has already been rebranded as Sytner Select. Sytner, owned by Penske Automotive, which also uses the CarShop brand in America, purchased CarShop for over £70 million in 2017 and expanded the brand globally in 2021.
A spokesperson for Sytner elaborated on the company's plans in a statement to Car Dealer Magazine. The spokesperson confirmed that the group is consulting with the CarShop team about the potential rebranding, following a successful pilot at a former CarShop location. The spokesperson also noted that the group is negotiating the sale of some CarShop locations and considering the closure of one site, emphasising that the priority is to protect as many jobs as possible while ensuring the business's long-term success.
Despite these assurances, CarShop staff have expressed concerns about potential job losses, although the company has not provided specific details on the extent of these losses. The changes come amidst broader industry challenges, with a noticeable shift in the used car supermarket model in the UK. Several major players, including Cazoo, Pendragon's CarStore, Peter Vardy's Carz, and Inchcape's Bravoauto, have exited or significantly downsized their operations due to supply issues and declining demand for used cars, particularly electric vehicles.
Steve Young, managing director of automotive research firm ICDP, highlighted the high fixed costs associated with standalone used car supermarkets. He noted that these costs, combined with the current restricted supply of three-to-four-year-old used cars resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, have pressured these business models. Additionally, the return of traditional new car supply from manufacturers has limited the price increase potential for used cars, making them less competitive against new cars with manufacturer-supported finance deals.
Young pointed out that while the supply issues are expected to resolve over the next few years, the high fixed costs of standalone used car supermarkets have accelerated the need for structural changes in the industry. Sytner's decision to rebrand and restructure its CarShop operations reflects these broader market dynamics and the need for businesses to adapt to changing conditions.
Sytner's strategic review and the resulting changes underscore the evolving landscape of the used car market in the UK. As the company transitions its CarShop brand to Sytner Select Approved Used Cars superstores and negotiates sales and potential closures, the impact on employees and the broader market remains a critical concern. However, Sytner's proactive approach aims to secure the long-term success of the business in a challenging environment.

Built by the trade, for the trade.
We know exactly what it’s like to run a dealership—because we’ve done it ourselves. Between us, we’ve owned and operated car dealerships for years, spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on marketing and advertising to try and move more metal.
Some of it worked. A lot of it didn’t. We bought into shiny promises that looked great on paper but delivered nothing but a lighter bank balance.
That’s why we built
MotorTrade Ai
—an AI-driven solution designed specifically for the UK motor trade, by people who’ve actually been in it.
We’ve used our combined 50+ years of experience to create tools that help you:
- Book sales appointments with previous customers
- Generate 5⭐️ Google reviews
- Manage inbound leads and turn them into buyers
- Drive real, measurable ROI—even in slow months like December
And we do all of this cost-effectively, with speed and simplicity.
We’re proud to say that our customers see a near-instant return on investment—and we’re always happy to
prove it upfront.
The motor trade is a small world, and unless you’ve lived it, you don’t truly get it. That’s what makes MotorTrade Ai different. We’re not a tech startup trying to break into the industry—we’re the industry, using AI to solve real problems that real dealers face every day.
